Marine Electrical Wiring Diagrams & Drafting

Create a complete, accurate record of your boat's electrical system with professional CAD electrical schematics. Whether you've bought a vessel with missing documentation, completed modifications, or need records for insurance, survey or AMSA compliance, our drafting service delivers clear, standards-compliant schematics that protect your investment and enable safe upgrades — for leisure cruisers and commercial fishing vessels alike.

It's the as-built electrical schematic your insurer or surveyor will actually accept — not a wiring diagram for boat insurance drawn from a generic template, but one drawn from your boat.

Insurance, Survey & AMSA Compliance

Professional electrical schematics help satisfy insurer requirements, give surveyors confidence, and support AMSA/NSCV documentation for commercial vessels.

Higher Resale Value

Professional electrical schematics increase your boat's value and make it more attractive to buyers.

Safe Upgrades & Modifications

Accurate schematics are essential to prevent overloads, avoid voltage drop, size protection correctly.

Faster Repairs & Less Downtime

Clear electrical schematics speed up diagnostics and repairs, saving labour costs and getting working boats back on the water sooner.

Our Process

1

Initial Consultation & Quote Request

Our team will assess your electrical needs and provide a detailed quote.

We provide a fixed-price quote covering:

  • On-site survey time
  • Design and drafting services
  • One round of revisions (if required)
2

First On-site Survey

Our team will conduct a survey of your existing electrical components & systems.

We document:

  • Existing electrical components and systems
  • Current draw for each component
  • Power distribution points and connections
3

Drafting & Internal Review

Our team creates detailed CAD electrical schematics based on the survey data, which are then reviewed for accuracy and compliance.

We ensure:

  • Accurate and detailed CAD electrical schematics
  • Compliance with AS/NZS 3004 and, for commercial vessels, NSCV requirements
  • Clear labelling and organization of all components
4

Second On-site Survey

Our team conducts a second survey focussed on wiring layout verification and sizing.

  • Verification of CAD drawings against physical installation
  • Noting wire gauge and routing details
  • Checking wiring clearance and support requirements
5

Final Review & Reporting

Our team conducts a final review to ensure all systems are properly installed and documented.

  • Final verification of all electrical systems
  • Preparation of final documentation and reports
  • Delivery of interactive, internally linked PDF schematics

What's in Every Electrical Schematic

Every drafting job covers the boat's DC and AC distribution, every battery and charging source, every circuit and load, and every protection device on board — drawn to IEC 60617, the international standard for electrical/electronic diagram symbols, and referenced against AS/NZS 3004 throughout. Cable runs are drawn as they actually exist on the boat, and every I/O point is labelled so the schematic can be read straight off the switchboard rather than as a stand-alone drawing.

Not a Free Wiring Diagram — and Not Your Builder's Manual Either

A search for a boat wiring diagram turns up two kinds of result, and neither is this: a free online generator, or the manual that came with the boat.

Free generator vs. builder's manual vs. a Maurice Marine diagram
Free online generator Builder's / OEM manual Maurice Marine drafting
Based on A generic hull/model template This model as it left the factory
Wire sizing Rule-of-thumb gauge ("10AWG under 30ft") Rarely specified — not a design or engineering document
Reflects changes since build No No — frozen at build date
Standard referenced None None
Accepted by surveyors & insurers Rarely — no calculation behind it Sometimes, if nothing's changed since build

None of this is detail for its own sake. A wire sized to a rule of thumb instead of its actual run length is a heat risk on a long DC run, not just an inconvenience — and every change made since the day the boat left the factory is invisible in a manual frozen at build date. A surveyor or insurer asking for an as-built diagram is asking for the boat as it is, not as it was designed or as it left the factory.

File formats. Delivered as an interactive, internally cross-referenced PDF, plus the editable CAD source file behind it — so the schematic updates as the boat changes instead of needing to be redrawn from scratch at the next haul-out or refit.

Who It's For

Whether it's needed for an insurance renewal, a pre-purchase survey, resale, or as the starting point for a refit, every electrical schematic is built the same way — surveyed on the boat, calculated for its actual runs and loads, and referenced to AS/NZS 3004. Commercial fishing vessels — multi-engine and genset boats, vessels with refrigeration or deck machinery — are covered under the same process, with NSCV documentation requirements factored in.

Turnaround

Typical turnaround from survey to delivered electrical schematic, by vessel length:

Vessel lengthTurnaround
Under 30ft10 working days
30–40ft12 working days
40–50ft15 working days
Over 50ftConfirmed at scoping

Priority scheduling is available for urgent insurance, survey or AMSA compliance deadlines.

Questions & Answers

Yes. We regularly update outdated or inaccurate wiring diagrams following system modifications.

  • On-site verification survey of the current installation
  • Redrafting to reflect actual wiring configuration
  • Structured reissue in interactive PDF format
  • Optional standards-aligned review

This ensures your documentation accurately reflects the system as it exists today — essential for insurance, surveys and resale.

Owner presence is helpful but not essential.

If available, you can:

  • Clarify modification history
  • Provide access to secured areas
  • Discuss planned upgrades

Alternatively, access can be arranged via marina staff, keyholders, vessel managers or, for commercial vessels, your skipper. We will contact you if clarification is required during the survey.

Typical turnaround is 10 working days from the initial survey for vessels under 30ft, rising to 12 working days for 30–40ft and 15 working days for 40–50ft boats. Vessels over 50ft are confirmed at scoping.

  • Consultation & quotation
  • On-site survey
  • Drafting and internal review
  • Verification (if required)
  • Final issue of documentation

Priority scheduling is available for urgent insurance, survey or AMSA compliance deadlines.

Planned upgrades can be incorporated into the documentation process.

  • Future system expansion noted during survey
  • Provision for lithium, solar or inverter integration
  • Load and protection considerations identified

This ensures the documentation remains relevant as your electrical system evolves.

Yes. Lithium battery systems are fully documented, including:

  • Battery configuration and specifications
  • BMS integration
  • Protection and isolation devices
  • Integration with solar, inverters and shore power

Documentation reflects the installation as surveyed and supports insurance and compliance requirements.

Yes. Alongside leisure boats, we document commercial fishing vessels to support AMSA and National Standard for Commercial Vessels (NSCV) documentation requirements, including:

  • Multi-engine and genset electrical configurations
  • Refrigeration, ice-making and deck machinery circuits
  • VHF/HF radio, EPIRB and navigation/comms circuits
  • Hydraulic winch and deck equipment power supply

Because working vessels are typically more electrically complex than a leisure boat of the same length, commercial jobs are quoted individually after an initial consultation rather than from the standard pricing table.

All documentation is delivered as a professionally structured, high-resolution interactive PDF.

The file includes internal cross-referencing links, allowing instant navigation between connected circuits and continuation pages.

  • Suitable for insurers and surveyors
  • Clear circuit tracing
  • Long-term vessel record keeping
  • Accessible on desktop, tablet or mobile

Revisions can be issued if your system is modified in the future.

Yes. Expedited scheduling is available for urgent insurance, survey or compliance requirements.

Please advise of deadlines during consultation so timelines can be confirmed in advance.
